Grace in the Rearview Mirror…it's closer than it appears

  • Ephesians 4:29

Is there a story behind Where Treetops Glisten? Several years ago, Cara Putman asked Tricia Goyer and me if we’d like to write a WWII Christmas novella collection, and we loved the idea. The plan rested for several months, then at Christmastime, a story idea hit me with such force that I knew I had to write it, whether or not anyone else was on board. A Chri […]

    • Too Blessed To Be Stressed
I’m pretty addicted to computer games. There have been a number, over the years, I have enjoyed. Right now I’m playing Zynga’s Castleville Legends. I’m in an alliance of ladies who play and help each other. It’s a generous,  supporting group with a fair number of believers. We encourage each other and have a lot of fun. The ladies are from all over the US, p […]
    • 12 Reasons to Live in a Small Town
Living in small towns has special challenges and delights. When I say ‘small’ I mean ‘small’. The town I live near has approximately 250 people. The county seat has 3600 and the county has about 16,000. So this is rural America. You might think this county was in the western states where the population is lower and space is not a problem. No, I live in Illin […]
    • A Slave Of God
I am a slave of Yaweh. We shy away from the concept, and understandably so, given the history of slavery here is the US.  I am one, however, and proud to declare it. As a believer in Christ, I have been paid for by Yeshua through his death and resurrection.  Thus, he owns me and I am his slave. Paul, Timothy and James, the brother of Christ, all claimed it. […]

The Questions

Did you lose your sight completely?

Did your marriage heal?

Do you put on your own makeup, fix your hair and choose your own clothes?

Do you travel by yourself?

Do you work full-time?

These are the questions people ask me most often, and my answer to all of them is a resounding, “Yes.”

Crazy, I know, but God never said what we experience on this earth would make sense. He just said that with Him, all things are possible
(Matthew 19:26).

The Bond

I’ve weathered tornadoes of pain during my lifetime. When I was 32, Retinitis Pigmentosa  robbed me of my eyesight and winds of anguish thrust me into emotional darkness. I was tempted to sink into self-pity and stay there.

The adversity intensified with marital infidelity and financial hardship. Then, years later, another storm buffeted me, bringing even greater heartache. My son, Joe, was tragically killed in a senseless altercation. Hoping for justice, I endured the trial of the man responsible. But to our astonishment, he was acquitted of all charges.

“How unfair,” I screamed inside.

Resentment, anger and sorrow threatened to consume me. Lost in my heartache, I groped in desperation. Finally, I turned to God, and He unlocked a new world for me through the verse that says, “Seek first the  Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be given
to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).

I clung to that reassurance and, one step at a time, gained strength, received comfort and rekindled the drive to keep going.

Amigas, if God gave me 20/20 spiritual vision, He’ll also heal the darkness you face.

If He brought love back into our marriage, He’ll mend yours, too.

If He brought peace after the death of my son, He’ll heal your broken heart, too.

If He helped me to forgive the man who killed our son, He’ll open the path for you to know the freedom of forgiveness, too.

My Commitment

I commit to ignite in you the passion to seek and find triumph through Christ Jesus.

My first book, Trials of Today, Treasures for Tomorrow: Overcoming Adversities in Life, is filled with inspiration, encouragement and paths to live a life of significance and joy.
