Why do jumping cats freak us out so much? And why do we laugh so hard at people who are freaking out?I'm one of those awkward laughers--someone who laughs at inappropriate times, such as when my husband does the splits on an icy sidewalk or when my child runs smack-dab into a doorpost. Unfortunately, compassion is not my go-to emotion. I do eventually f […]

Sunday Book Review: Sassy Pants and Sassy Pants Makes Amends

Posted by elainemcooper on June 24, 2012

Posted by Elaine Marie Cooper

Today I have posted reviews of two delightful children’s books by author Carol A. Brown. These stories will entertain both children and adults alike.

Sassy Pants

Diva Pig out of control!

Sassy Pants the piglet has a rough start in life. But when Farmer White and his family try to help her out, she begins to take her blessings for granted and becomes the farm bully!

Carol Brown’s endearing tale of the diva pig is humorous, fun to read, and carries many a life lesson for children. The narrative is reminiscent of Beatrix Potter’s tales of naughty Peter Rabbit and equally engaging, as told by a Merino sheep that shudders as she recounts the summer of the rogue piglet on the loose. The wise old sheep tells the story to teach the other youngsters on the farm the importance of following the rules.

I was beginning to think nothing was going to make Sassy Pants behave but the “natural consequences” conclusion for the naughty porcine was a satisfying end.

Loved the tale of “Sassy Pants!”

Sassy Pants Makes Amends

Sassy Pants the pig is lonely and she knows it’s her own fault.

The naughty piggy had spent the previous summer making life miserable for all the other farm animals and now she is bearing the consequences. No one wants to play with her. No one trusts her.

In desperation she seeks advice from the wise old farm horse who teaches Sassy about asking forgiveness and making amends for her bad behavior. It’s not an easy lesson for the self-centered pig, but with the help of Ms. Molly the sheep, Sassy learns how to be a good friend.

I love this story about true forgiveness and the consequences of our actions. The dialogue is delightful and filled with character lessons laced with humor.

A wonderful, insightful children’s tale!

Author Bio:

Carol was raised in a rural farming community in Iowa for the first 16 years of life.  The family moved to Minnesota where she finished high school and then pursued academics.  She met her husband, David, during his internship with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  They married in 1969, and have ministered together in Idaho, Indiana, Ohio, Australia, Germany, Finland, and Canada, David as pastor, counselor, and trainer; Carol as educator, helpmate and intercessor.  They have two daughters and five grandchildren. As educator Carol has taught elementary, then community college, college and university classes.

“I started telling stories when I had enough brothers for an audience!”

Both Sassy Pants and Sassy Pants Makes Amends are available at Amazon.com
